Graduate schools

Research of excellence feeding innovative teaching programs

Built on the Anglo-Saxon model, the four graduate schools of the University of Strasbourg (Ecoles Universitaires de Recherche | EUR) provide a master-doctorate innovation continuum. With an important international dimension and strengthened links with economic actors, they allow students to enter a research based field of excellence at the master’s level.

Attractive and visible internationally, it creates the synergies and fertile ground for a new generation of researchers who will meet the challenges and emerging needs of our society.

The graduate schools are organised around internationally recognised research teams in supramolecular chemistry (CSC-IGS), molecular and cellular integrative biology (IMCBio), nanoscience-quantum physics (QMat) and interdisciplinary approaches to pain (Euridol).

They are the result of close collaboration between the University of Strasbourg, its partners CNRS and INSERM, and Conectus, their technology transfer company.

The University of Strasbourg is also a partner of the graduate school in Demography and Population Sciences (REDPOP), as part of a national network.

Linking training and research

«The graduate school establishes a continuity from the master’s to the doctoral degree. From the first year of the master’s degree, students work on research projects, at the very heart of our laboratories, and in close contact to researchers. There is also great freedom for teaching innovation. This scheme is aimed at a small number of high-level undergraduates and doctoral students who are particularly motivated. All these characteristics give it great international attraction».

Important information

In October 2017, the University of Strasbourg topped all French universities in the graduate school tender, launched within the framework of the Investments for the Future Programme by the Ministry of Higher Education Research and Innovation and the General Commissariat for Investment.

Among the 29 projects selected at the national level, four were from Strasbourg, and one project was built in partnership with the University Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, INED, and other institutions.

This success confirms the excellence of research, training and innovation at the University of Strasbourg!
